An Impromptu Missouri State Capitol Adventure - My First Visit

Happy, regardless.
Happy, regardless.

Some trips begin with a plan, a calendar invite and, on a good day, a sensible pair of shoes.

This was not one of those trips.

My latest social media short came from one of those gloriously unplanned detours that make a place feel less like a dot on a map or a city I just mention on the morning broadcast.

Those "why not" moments make a community feel like home. So, I took an impromptu trip to Missouri’s State Capitol in Jefferson City, and while it had absolutely no connection to my current assignment, it gave me something better: a fresh reminder that Mid-Missouri keeps surprising me.

I have been marveling at this region as I near the five-month mark in Mid-MO. I'm still settling in if I'm being honest. But, central Missouri already feels like home.

People stroll and sit on lawns before a domed capitol building at sunset, with trees framing the scene and one dog on a leash.
This is an AI-generated photo. SORRY I forgot to take a pic.

The landscape, the history tucked into everyday drives, the way a quick errand can turn into a “wait, I need to film this” moment, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, it's the people.
